Art is empathy. Art is a journey from the soul of the artist to a universal archetype of human experience, then to the specific artwork that is created, and then to the one who experiences that art and touches the universal archetype to feel it in their own soul. The soul and the archetypes are the vessels of meaning within us and between us. Art makes meaning available to the senses, and it makes connection available across space and time. The great masters of ages past make their souls and the souls of their subjects available to us centuries later.
